The Best Whole Grains

http://www.lifeologia.com/blog/- is a great page. If you haven't checked it you should. I certainly agree with wild rice getting a checkmark for 'high in protein' as well!
Great guide to grains!
Although I think Wild Rice should get the checkmark for *high in protein* 7 grams is quite high for a grain.

Which one's your favourite?
We switch between buckwheat, quinoa and rice quite often.

... Gluten-free Folks : please note Bulgur is not Gluten-free. Polenta as a grain is a ground corn meal - but if you look for it as a prepared Polenta recipe, it usually has wheat added to it, making it not GF.
Oats are naturally gluten-free, but often become contaminated with wheat and you need to purchase G-F certified oats if you want to be safe.

The Dirty Dozen - Not a New Clint Eastwood Movie!

Do you know what the dirty dozen is? No, it is not a new Clint Eastwood movie. Which vegetables are the 'worst' for pesticide residue, which are the best. This is a great link you can print out or use as an app.

Organic Wild Rice Linguine Is Here!

I am so excited - our organic wild rice linguine is here.  It is made with organic wild rice flour, organic durum and organic eggs.  It will be available soon on our website. It has a very mild taste, but is bursting with nutrition boasting 9g of protein, 2 g of fibre and 15% of your daily iron!

Do you chose whole grains?

"People have been refining cereal grains since at least the Industrial Revolution, favoring white flour and white rice over brown, even at the price of lost nutrients.  Part of the reason was prestige:  Because for many years only the wealthy could afford refined grains, they acquired a certain glamour.  Refining grains extends their shelf life (precisely because they are less nutritious to the pests that compete with us for their calories) and makes them easier to digest be removing fiber that ordinarily slows the release of their sugars" Michael Pollan - In Defense of Food

Sugar cravings? - Eat Wild Rice

Brendan Brazier, the author of Whole Foods to Thrive says that there is a way to curb sugar cravings.  "Seek out foods that are nutrient dense, such as fruit, quinoa and wild rice.  They are nourishing and they satisfy hunger, which cuts cravings."
So nice to see wild rice getting the kudos it so deserves! Thanks Brendan.

We are very proud to announce that we have earned Non-GMO verification.  The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit collaboration comprised of manufacturers, retailers, processors, distributors, farmers, seed companies and consumers who are concerned with the use of GMOs in food products.

Do you pay more for organic?

I have to admit, I am a coupon user, sale flyer type of shopper.  I love to save wherever possible.  That being said, there are some areas I will not scrimp on.  I always make certain I have lots of fresh fruit in the house - no matter what season it is.  And yes, when it comes to the dirty dozen, http://organic.lovetoknow.com/Dirty_Dozen_Organic_Foods I have started to buy only organic.
I don't want my kids to pay the price later in life for me saving a few bucks now and again.
What are your thoughts?
